A great story and illustrations about piping plovers

Piping plovers are doing well in Maine, thanks to a lot of folks who look after them as they nest along our beaches.

And a new book, The Mystery Chick – A Piping Plover Story – by Glennis Chabot and Patricia Flint, captures just why so many have stepped up to help this awesome bird. The book is fiction, but includes lots of facts about plovers.

I really loved the marvelous and colorful illustrations by Claudia Diller in the book, published by Maine Authors Publishing.

I was pleased to see this on the back cover, written by Judy Camuso, DIF&W’s Wildlife Division Director when she wrote this. Now, she’s DIFW’s new Commissioner. Here’s what Judy wrote:

“The Mystery Chick is a wonderful introduction to the joys and challenges of wildlife conservation. It gives us a glimpse into the issues impacting wildlife and populated areas and how even kids can make a difference when it comes to wildlife conservation.”

Please be sure to share this book with your kids and grandkids. In the back of the book is a great list of what each of us can do to protect piping plovers.
