Heather Emerson has written a wonderful story and book, Silkie Sunshine Cannot Fly, about an odd chicken, the Silkie. It’s a fluffy, furry chicken that cannot fly. And silkie is shunned by the other chickens, until she saves all their chicks from a weasel.
Heather’s illustrations are really good, especially the ones of Silkie.
Heather and her husband have Silkies on their small homestead along with geese, turkeys, and goats. She works in her local school district as a behavioral health professional and special education paraprofessional.
She is to be admired for her advocacy for those without voices. Heather wrote this book to encourage tolerance and encourage praise for individual uniqueness.
She does all of that and more in this unique story, written for kids but worthy of adult interest too.
No, Linda and I are not going to get some Silkies, but they sure are entertaining!
