What the Wind Can Tell You by Sarah Marie A. Jette is both distressing and inspiring. You may, as I did, shed a few tears along the way. Published by Islandport Press, Sarah’s novel was written for teenagers as well as adults, and there are some important life’s lessons here.

Isabelle Perez is a middle-schooler whose brother, Julian, is burdened with a severe form of epilepsy. He’s in a wheelchair and suffers many seizures every day. Isabelle loves and cherishes her brother, but is frustrated that his meds keep him sleeping most of the time and unable to interact with her.

Then a miracle occurs, taking Isabelle and a fully-functioning Julian into a magical place called Las Brisas every night while their parents sleep. They enjoy adventures is some amazing places, as well as close to home.

There are several other interesting characters in this story, including an aunt and grandfather. But it’s Isabelle and Julian you will never forget. Just have a tissue ready as you read this wonderful story.

Sarah grew up in Lewiston, served in the Peace Corps, and now teaches fourth graders. She lives in Belmont, Massachusetts. This is her first novel, and I can only hope she’s writing another one now, because she is a great story teller.
