We discovered an awesome BBQ place in Jonesboro

Enroute to Lubec last week, lunchtime arrived as Linda and I drove through Jonesboro. On previous trips, we’d noticed a BBQ place there, so Linda suggested we give it a try.

Well, it’s unlikely we’ll ever drive by Swamp Yankee BBQ again without stopping for a tasty feast. Myron and Linda Spaulding, after retiring, opened this place 2 years ago. They are very friendly hosts, spending time visiting with all their guests.

One thing I told them is their prices are very low. They of course know that but are happy providing great food to both locals and tourists.

I had a tough time choosing between the pulled pork sandwich ($7), and the pulled pork meal ($12) until Linda Spaulding told me there is twice as much pork in the meal. Yes! My meal included beans, coleslaw, and corn bread – yup, it was a feast. I couldn’t eat it all but carried the leftovers to enjoy in Lubec.

I also enjoyed a Geaghan’s beer for just $5. If you are a regular reader of this column, you know that I love Geaghan’s brews and Bangor pub.

Linda enjoyed her Pulled Pork Chicken sandwich, noting it was unusual – not something you see on most menus – and very tasty. All I can say is there was nothing left on her plate!

The menu is extensive. It’s going to take quite a few visits to try everything that called my name, from the BBQ sandwiches and sliders to the Lobster mac and cheese and pan seared salmon. Then there are pasta dishes, chili, and brisket.

Swamp Yankee BBQ is on Route 1 in Jonesboro. You can check them out at www.swampyankeebbq.com.

And all I can add is: Don’t ever drive by this place!
