Stunning Maine Photos Make This Book A Keeper

The photos in this book, Maine – Life in a Day, are beautiful, entertaining, and even inspiring, capturing Mainers, from kids to senior citizens, working and playing. I must thank Down East Books for creating and publishing this book.

The work of photographers all over Maine assure that you will treasure this book and enjoy it often, hopefully with your kids and grandkids, as I am doing.

Some of the photos will trigger memories, as the one of an adult and child fishing in Presque Isle did for me, on page 5. Yes, it didn’t take long to start me on this great adventure! And the photo of a guy standing in the ocean water fishing in Kennebunk, with a stunning sunrise, made me want to grab my rod, jump in my vehicle, and head that way. But darn it, March is a bit early for that!

So I kept turning the pages, stopping often to read the captions and enjoy the photos. On page 33, I discovered a photo of one of our all-time best game wardens, Deb Palman, with her dog.
The photo of a father and son digging clams reminded me of the times we enjoyed doing that at Cobbscook State Park. And the photo of Kelsey Navarre holding a puffin chick put me right back on the Barstow’s boat, out of Port Clyde, enjoying the ride to see puffins on a nearby island.

There are lots of photos of Mainers working, from farm fields to forests to barber shops and restaurants. And I guarantee, when you get to the end of the book, you will quickly flip to the first page and start over. This one’s a keeper.

Photo: the photo that accompanies this column is mine, taken from South Lubec of a sunrise over Campobello Island.
