George A. Smith

George A. Smith of Mount Vernon retired in December of 2010 after 18 years as the executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.

He is now a full-time writer. This includes this blog for the website of the Bangor Daily News, an editorial page weekly column The Native Conservative for the Kennebec Journal and Waterville Morning Sentinel, a monthly column The Capitol Report for The Maine Sportsman, a nature/outdoor news blog for Down East magazine’s website, an outdoor news blog for his own website (georgesmithmaine.com), and special columns for many newsletters and other publications for organizations including the Maine Tourism Association, Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, Maine Audubon, and Small Woodland Owners Association.

Smith and his wife Linda also write a weekly travel column The Travelin Maine(rs) for the Kennebec Journal and Waterville Morning Sentinel. For eleven years he co- hosted a unique weekly television show called Wildfire, a talk show focused on conservation and environmental issues.
