There’s a Lot Of Outdoor News!

There’s a Lot Of Outdoor News!

If you love Maine’s outdoors – and all of us do – then I have a lot to tell you. I left my job at the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine at the end of 2010, after 18 years as the organization’s executive director, in order to write full time.

For the past year and a half I’ve been writing outdoor news blogs for Down East Magazine’s website and my own website (www.georgesmithmaine.com). So why, you may ask, am I starting another outdoor news blog on the website of the Bangor Daily News?

There is a simple answer. I want to reach as many readers as possible, and the BDN will significantly expand my audience. The BDN has also agreed to allow me to move readers back and forth from their website to mine and vice versa.

Typically you will get a brief post on an issue here, and then be provided with a link to a specific column on my website if you want more information on that issue.

My focus is on issues that are not being covered by the state’s news reporters and other members of the media. I’m not trying to compete with them. I am trying to add to what they are already reporting.

I read the BDN and several of its website blogs and enjoy the outdoor coverage provided by John Holyoke and others. But I have the time and contacts to research and write about issues they cannot adequately cover, hopefully adding to your knowledge about those issues and helping you to be active and influential on the outdoor issues we all care about.

I really enjoy hearing from readers, so please keep in touch! Email is the best way to reach me: georgesmithmaine@gmail.com.
